Wimbledon, England (AHN) - Svetlana Kuznetsova cruised into the final eight in the Wimbledon women's draw by stopping blossoming teenager Tamira Paszek 6-3, 6-2 on Tuesday, just as the incessant rain forced another halt in play at the world's oldest and most respected tennis tournament.
The match, which was delayed about 30 minutes between sets, was anti-climatic as Kuznetsova took control against the 16-year-old Paszek.
Kuznetsova devastated Paszek with four aces, 22 winners and three breaks. Paszek managed just six winners.
Kuznetsova, the tournament's fifth seed, will face the winner of the Maria Sharapova-Venus Williams showdown, scheduled for later in the day Tuesday.
In other fourth-round action, No. 6 seed Ana Ivanovic advanced to the quarters with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win over No. 11 Nadia Petrova. Meanwhile, No. 18 Marion Bartoli pulled off a big upset by downing No. 3 Jelena Jankovic, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Jankovic lost despite topping Bartoli 36-24 in winners and 4-0 in aces. Bartoli broke Jankovic nine times to capture the victory.
Bartoli, of France, got past the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time in her career. She reached the fourth round at Roland Garros and her previous best showing at Wimbledon had been a third-round appearance in 2004.
Bartoli will face Michaella Krajicek in the quarterfinals, while Ivanovic will advance to play Nicole Vaidisova who knocked off the defending champion, Amelie Mauresmo in the fourth round.
