Palermo, Sicily (AHN) - The finals of the Palermo International were set on Saturday as second seeded, Martina Mueller, and eighth seeded, Agnes Szavay, won their semi-finals matches.
Both women advanced by beating Italians on the clay court at Country Time Club.
Mueller beat Karin Knapp 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 while Szavay upended Sara Errani 7-6, 6-1.
The final between the two ladies should be an interesting one as both hungry players will vie for their first tennis tournament win this season.
Mueller, who is ranked No. 34 in the world, has not reached a final yet this year, while the 18-year Szavay has not reached a final in her entire career yet.
While Muller, a German-born, will be considered the favorite to win the Palermo, Szavay, who hails from Hungary, should provide plenty of competition because she is playing solid tennis of late.
Szavay has risen to No. 53 in the world rankings after not even being ranked in the top 200 players last year.
