Wimbledon, England (AP) - Venus Williams lived up to her intergalactic name on Monday when she defeated Akiko Morigami 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 in a thrilling comeback win during a match that was suspended by rain on Saturday.
Williams bravely overcame 23 break points, her own 14 double faults and a 5-3 deficit in the third set to send Morigami packing and advance to a fourth-round match-up against No. 2 seed Maria Sharapova, even after taking a stern talking-to from dad, Richard.
"If Venus moves up to the ball and takes it off the bounce instead of waiting behind the baseline, she'll be the only one here, including Sharapova," said the elder Williams, who also coaches his daughters, Venus and Serena. "She's not going to beat anyone if she's not moving into the ball."
The match was halted with Williams trailing 1-4 in the second set on Saturday. When play resumed on Monday, she lost the first seven points to Morigami.
Williams, the tournament's 23rd seed, had to cope with constant problems with her serve in the windy weather, but managed to overcome her problems after falling behind early in the match's final game.
With rain beginning to fall heavily in the final game, Williams erased two huge break points to pull out the match on a service winner.
In other women's news, world No. 1, Justine Henin, became the first woman to advance to the quarterfinal round by thrashing No. 15-seed Patty Schnyder in less than an hour, 6-2, 6-2.
Henin, seeking to complete a career Grand Slam, admitted she was shocked at how swift the match went.
"I was a little bit surprised that the match was that quick," Henin said. "I was ready to have a good fight."
In other suspended matches from Saturday, No. 5-seed Svetlana Kuznetsova beat Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 6-3; No. 6 Ana Ivanovic defeated Aravane Rezai 6-3, 6-2; No. 11 Nadia Petrova downed Virginia Ruano Pascual 6-3, 7-6 (3) while 16-year-old Tamira Paszek of Austria beat No. 12 Elena Dementieva 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 and No. 14 Nicole Vaidisova beat Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 6-2.
The men's third-round was delayed for the sixth time in seven days for approximately nearly an hour.
One men's match was completed as No. 7 Tomas Berdych outlasted Lee Hyung-taik 6-4, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3).

Federer advanced when his fourth-round opponent, Tommy Haas, pulled out with a stomach muscle injury.
