Brussels, Belgium (AHN) - Kim Clijsters was Belgium's first tennis player to reach No. 1, holding the top ranking for 19 weeks in 2003.
Now Clijsters is preparing to be a No.1 mom for the first time.
A spokesman for Clijsters not only announced that the former World No. 1 is pregnant, but that she will also wed American basketball player Brian Lynch on Saturday.
Along with her 34 career singles titles, Clijsters also won the 2002 and 2003 WTA Championships.
Last year it was a left wrist injury that stopped Clijsters from defending her 2005 U.S. Open title, her only Grand Slam win.
After playing in the Fed Cup finals, Clijsters did reach the 2007 Australian Open semifinals but unfortunately injured her hip.
After a string of injuries, the 23-year-old Clijsters retired in May. Clijsters became pregnant with her first child, after making the announcement of her retirement in May.
Jeroen Jespers, the Clijsters family spokesman, said that Clijsters and Lynch have always wanted children and will be married in her hometown of Bree, in northern Belgium.
