Paris, France (AHN) - Ana Ivanovic made short work of Maria Sharapova, knocking off her opponent 6-2, 6-1, in Thursday's quarterfinal play at the French Open.
Ivanovic, who will face the winner of the match between two-time defending champion Justine Henin andor fellow Serb Jelena Jankovic took just over an hour to dispatch a sloppy Sharapova.
Ivanovic was at her best, nailing crisp winners and strong serves that produced four service aces. She was anticipating a stronger test from Sharapova, who was trying to advance to her third consecutive final in a major, including the U.S. Open, where she lost.
``I was knowing I have to stay aggressive,'' Ivanovic told AP. ``I play a great game. I lose no shots. I was thinking the game would be much closer.''
Instead, Ivanovic dominated in committing just 11 unforced errors to just 25 for Sharapova, who was so off, in fact, that she double-faulted to close out the first set. She also quickly fell behind 3-0 in the second and couldn't recover.
Ivanovic entered the top-10 rankings earlier in the year at No. 8 after winning her first Tier I clay court title at the the2007 Qatar Telecom German OpenChampionships.
