Wimbledon, England (AHN) - Amelie Mauresmo is apparently looking to make quick work of her early round foes at Wimbledon as she seeks to defend her championship.
Mauresmo got off to a fast and strong start on Tuesday, recording a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Jamea Jackson in just over an hour. Jackson, ranked No. 158 in the world, played well in spots against the No. 4 seeded Mauresmo, getting a break point in the opening game.
Mauresmo's power and experience was ultimately too much for the 20-year-old American, however.
In other matches at Wimbledon, No. 10 Daniela Hantuchova breezed past Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-0, 6-1.
No. 19 Katarina Srebotnik outlasted unseeded Elena Baltacha 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-2 .
Jackson's match was the only match this morning that involved an American player.
Mauresmo will advance to play the winner of the match between Virginie Razzanov and Yvonne Meusburger.
