Wimbledon Update: Henin Takes First Step Towards Career Grand Slam With First Round Win

Wimbledon, England (AHN) - The world's No. 1 ranked female tennis player, Justine Henin, took the first step to completing the career grand slam by defeating Jorgelina Cravero 6-3, 6-0 in the first round of Wimbledon on Monday.

Henin, who recently won her fourth French Open titles to go along with her 2003 U.S. Open and 2004 Australian Open crowns, committed just 13 unforced errors and blew past Cravero in less than an hour.

Cravero was ranked 117th in the world.

Henin is looking to grab her first Wimbledon title after losing in the finals in each of the last two years.

She will move on to the second round where she will face Vera Dushevina who defeated Timea Bacsinszky 6-4, 7-5.

Bacsinszy is an 18-year-old from Switzerland and is ranked No. 91 in the world.

In other action on Monday, the highest ranking American, No. 7 Serena Williams, showed off an impressive serve during her 6-4, 7-5 straight sets win over Lourdes Dominguez. Williams smashed home four aces, topping out at 113 mph on her serve, and 21 winners while breaking Dominguez five times.

Williams was the second American woman to claim victory on the day, joining Laura Granville who beat Aleksandra Wozniak, 7-6, 6-3 earlier on Monday.

Next up for Serena will be Australian Alicia Molik who defeated Anastasia Rodionova, 6-3, 6-2.

No. 15 Patty Schnyder, No. 18 Marion Bartoli, No. 20 Sybille Bammer and No. 25 Lucie Safarova all also advanced on Monday. Only Schnyder needed three sets to claim victory.
