Wimbledon, England (AHN) - Former French Open champion Anastasia Myskina will not get a chance to snap her recent slump in play at Wimbledon.
Myskina, the 2004 champion at Roland Garros, has re-aggravated a foot injury she first suffered last August and has dropped out of Wimbledon.
The injury may help explain Myskina's rapidly disintegrating game, which included a 6-1, 6-0 setback to Meghann Shaughnessy in the first round of this year's French Open.
The defeat marked her seventh straight loss and dropped her to No. 76 in ATP rankings. Her ranking was as high as No. 3, after the 2004 win at the French Open.
Myskina also fell to Gisela Dulko 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6 in the first round of the ASB Classic in January.
Myskina is not the only player dropping out of Wimbledon play due to ailments. China's Jie Zheng, who is ranked 60, withdrew due to a left ankle injury.
Italy's Romina Oprandi, who is ranked No. 122, is sidelined from Wimbledon due to a right forearm injury.
