Heathrow, FL (AHN) - Just think what she might do when she becomes a teenager.

12-year-old Alexis Thompson was one of eight players to earn a spot in sectional qualifying for the U.S Women's Open after shooting rounds of 72 and 71 at Heathrow Country Club Tuesday afternoon.

Thompson is the youngest player to ever qualify to the Open, besting Morgan Pressel, who qualified for the U.S. Open at 12 years, 11 months, and 21 days of age. Thompson is 12 years, 4 months, and 1 day.

Ironically, when Pressel qualified in 2001, the tournament was held at Pine Needles Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Pine Needles will also host this year's Women's Open June 28-July 1.

15-year old Vicky Hurst also qualified for a spot, earning medalist honors with a 7-under par total for the two rounds.
