Paris, France (AHN) - Serena Williams breezed through her first set and hung on in the second to defeat Milagros Sequera 6-0, 7-6 in second round action at the French Open.
Williams, the No. 8 seed, used her speed and power to topple the Venezuelan and move on to the third round. Sequera, ranked No. 69 in the world, settled down to play better against her opponent, even taking a 3-0 lead in the second set, but couldn't quite muster enough winners.
Next up for Williams is Michaella Krajicek, who has idolized the American star for many years. Krajicek has excellent tennis genes herself, as the younger sister of 1996 Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek.
In other matches, Karin Knapp of Italy upended Alon Bondarenko of the Ukraine 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 and Ana Ivanovic ripped Sania Mirza 6-1, 6-4.
