French Open: Sharapova Breezes Through Second Round

Paris, France (AHN) - Maria Sharapova didn't take very long to secure her spot in the third round of the French Open.

Sharapova easily disposed of Jill Craybas with a 6-2, 6-1 win on Thursday -- an impressive showing after struggling to get past Frenchwoman Emilie Loit in the first round.

It took just 64 minutes for Sharapova to advance into the third round.

Craybas, ranked 73rd in the world, is best known for upsetting Serena Williams in the third round at Wimbledon two years ago.

Similar magic wasn't in the cards against Sharapova, who broke a 2-2 tie in the first set and won the next 10 games. Sharapova

Sharapova was broken serving match point, but quickly regained control.

In other matches, Katarina Srebotnik defeated Vera Dushevina 6-4, 6-2 and Patty Schnyder upended Kateryna Bondarenko 6-3, 6-2.

Serena Williams and Amelie Mauresmo are in action later on Thursday.
