Antwerp, Belgium (AHN) - Amelie Mauresmo received a new tennis racket on Sunday but she probably will not be playing with it ever.

The French woman won a $1.3 million racket full of diamonds after beating Belgium Kim Clijsters 6-4, 7-6 in the finals of the Diamond Games tournament.

Mauresmo won for the third time in a row which gives her the right to keep the racket. The tournament's rules stipulated that the first woman to win three times in a five year span would get the "trophy."

The victory by Mauresmo left Clijsters saddened. The reason for her disappointment had to do more with her final appearance in front of her home crowd than with the loss.

Clijsters will retire at the end of the year from competitive tennis.

She become most emotional after the match after a local band serenaded her with song. Tears could be seen dripping from her eyes.

As for the match itself, Mauresmo was her dominate self when she plays against the Belgium. She has beaten her opponent every time in their last five matches.

The French woman got out to an early 4-2 lead in the first set behind a strong serve. She won the set as Clijsters had trouble getting her serving game going.

The second set was much closer as Clijsters got an early break but Mauresmo got it back rather quickly. She won the set's tiebreaker with an ace.

Despite her sadness, Clijsters gave her opponent the highest of compliments.

"There is no better champion than you," she said. "I admire you in so many ways."

Mauresmo appreciated the comments. Still, it was unclear whether she liked that new racket even more.

"I said all week I didn't think about it," she said, "but honestly I thought about it the whole week."
