Sorenstam Disappointed With 16th Place Finish At Women's British Open

Sometimes just playing is good enough, or it has to be. That was the case for Annika Sorenstam, who finished at four-over and in a tie for 16th place at the recent Women's British Open. Sorenstam, who has three top 10 finishes on the season in nine events, lamented that her play was pretty good, but just not good enough to make a run at a championship she last captured in 2003. Sorenstam, who has won 10 majors, is returning from disc problems in her neck and back that have troubled her throughout the year, and had to be content with being competitive.

In Progress: Seven-Time Major Champion Inkster Shoots 68 In Second Round Of Women's British Open

Seven-time major champion Juli Inkster played her way back into contention during the second round of the Women's British Open at St. Andrews on Friday. After shooting a 6-over 79 on Thursday during her first round at the historic St. Andrews course in Scotland, Inkster seemed destined to miss the cut and exit the LPGA's first trip to St. Andrews early. But her round on Friday has catapulted her back into contention. Inkster, 47, shot a 5-under 68, totaling three birdies and an eagle on the front nine to propel her to the second-best round in the tournament so far. She improved her score from the first round by 11 strokes.

St. Andrews To Host Women's British Open For First Time

The famed course at St. Andrews, home to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, has had a history of denying women entry onto their links in the past. However, this week, the course will play host to the Women's British Open for the first time in its history. The Old Course has played host to the men's version of the major 27 times. Last year's Women's British Open winner Sherri Steinhauer, Annika Sorenstam and No. 1 ranked player Lorena Ochoa will be among the favorites for this year's crown in Scotland.

Poor Weather Conditions Give 47-Year-Old Inkster Chance To Win Evian Masters

Julie Inkster shot a 3-under par 69 to take a two stroke lead over Jang Jeong in the third round of the Evian Masters on Saturday. The 47-year-old leader had one of the best rounds of the day as many ladies struggled with the windy weather conditions. If Inkster continues with her great play in the final round, she will become the oldest winner of a LPGA event, breaking the mark set by Joanne Carner who won at the 46.

After Two Withdraws, Michelle Wie Eyes Overseas Trip For Next Two Events

After withdrawing from both the Ginn Open and the U.S. Women's Open, Michelle Wie is now looking to take a trip overseas for her return to the golf course. Maybe this time, she'll actually make it all the way through a tournament. Next week, she hopes that a passport stamp and a change of scenery might help her get back on track. Wie plans on playing in the LPGA's Evian Masters in France. She also anticipates staying overseas for the following week when she will participate at the Ricoh Women's British Open.

Sorenstam Still Waiting On Apology From Wie Over Ginn Tribute Incident

Annika Sorenstam is still waiting for an apology from Michelle Wie, but there's no guarantee that she'll get one anytime soon from the 17-year-old. The U.S. Women's Open begins Thursday at Pine Needles, and Sorenstam still seems miffed that Wie decided to walk off one course citing injury, and then days later play a practice round in preparation for a major. Earlier this month, while 14-over-par through 16 holes on the first day of the Sorenstam-hosted Ginn Tribute, Wie withdrew, citing a wrist injury. Two days later, Wie showed up at the site of the McDonald's LPGA Championship in Havre de Grace, Md., to play a practice round.

Wie Pulls Out Of PGA Tour's John Deere Classic; Still Plans To Play At Upcoming U.S. Women's Open

At least she is now being consistent. After withdrawing mid-round during the Ginn Tribute a few weeks ago in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina citing an ailing right wrist, Michelle Wie has decided not to play in the upcoming John Deere Classic on the PGA Tour because of the same injury. She had been granted a sponsor's exemption into the tournament for the third straight year and is still trying to make her first cut on American soil playing with the men. She still plans on partcipating in next weeks U.S. Women's Open, however.

Castrale Comes Back From Six Strokes Down To Top Ochoa In First Playoff Hole At Ginn Tribute

Nicole Castrale didn't seem to have a chance to win the Ginn Tribute late in the final round on Sunday. She trailed the world's No. 1 female golfer Lorena Ochoa by six strokes with six holes to go. Against all odds, Castrale erased Ochoa's advantage as the top ranked player let her back in by recording bogeys on two of the final three holes. Castrale forced a playoff and won her first LPGA event with a par on the first hole.
