Wie Says, 'I'm Back,' Announces Return To LPGA Tour

West Palm Beach, FL (AHN) - Though her announcement that she is ready to return to the LPGA Tour may not quite rival Michael Jordan's now famous, "I'm back" statement, 17-year-old Michelle Wie is back in the news again.

Wie announced on Monday that she plans to play in the Ginn Tribute, Hosted by Annika tournament in Mount Pleasant, S.C., beginning May 31.

An official announcement from Wie is scheduled for Monday.

Wie left the tour after injuring her left wrist in February when she fell while running.

Though the spill did not cause any fractures, the injury was significant enough to keep her out of the LPGA's first major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, won by Morgan Pressel, as well as the Ginn Open in Orlando, won by Brittany Lincicome.

Wie also passed on the opportunity to play in the Michelob Open in Virginia in May.

If doctors give Wie clearance, the Ginn Tribute would be the first LPGA event of the 2007 season for the future Stanford student.

Prior to the injury, Wie played in her hometown PGA Tour event, the Sony Open in Honolulu, for the fourth straight year, posting a 78-76 in the event's first two rounds and missing the cut by 14 strokes, while having her right wrist wrapped due to another previous injury.
