Reunion, FL (AHN) - Brittany Lincicome earned her second-career LPGA victory by capturing the Ginn Open Sunday afternoon.
Lincicome finished 10 under, which was one stroke ahead of Lorena Ochoa. Coming into the final round of play, she was four strokes behind Ochoa and Laura Davies.
"Third place was going to be a great score," said Lincicome. "I tried to stay patient and it paid off."
Lincicome, winner of last year's World Match Play, pocketed $390,000 and a new car for her performance.
Davies (79) was in control up until the final two holes. She double-bogeyed on 17 after missing three putts, then hit the bunkers on 18. Davies finished one shot ahead of Juli Inkster (72) and Nicole Castrale (74).
Natalie Gulbis shot an 80 and finished 2 under while 10 other players also ended in the 80s.
Ochoa struggled on the back nine with a double-bogey on 13 and a bogey on the 15th and 16th, giving up four strokes in the span of four holes. Ochoa's collapse allowed Davies to take a one-shot advantage with two holes to go.
While Ochoa's finished was disappointing, the windy conditions may have played a role in her fall from the top. There was a two and a half hour rainstorm delay while wind guys reached 41 mph during play.
"The sand would come out of the bunkers and just hit us," Ochoa said. "We were talking about how hard the wind needs to blow before they stop play."
