Ochoa's Quadruple Bogey Upstages Pak and Pettersen's Lead At LPGA's First Major

Rancho Mirage, CA (AHN) - Lorena Ochoa had one of those holes late in her third round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship that all golfers dread. She quadruple bogeyed the 17th hole to fall way down the leader board of the LPGA's first major of the year. Her big mistake left Se Ri Pak and Suzann Pettersen the leaders going into the final round.

Ochoa was only one stroke behind the leaders going into the 17th hole but that vanished in barely a couple of minutes.

After hitting her second shot into the deep grass off the green, Ochoa missed on a flop shot. Her next shot found her ball sliding down the green almost 45 feet away from the pin. She subsequently three putted for a score of seven.

Once she finished the final hole with a round of 77 for the day, Ochoa found herself five strokes off the lead and in desperate help to win this weekend because 11 players were ahead of her on the leader board.

Pak, who shot 70 on Saturday, and Pettersen, who shot 71, were the two players at the top at 4-under par.

Meagahn Francella and Paula Creamer were tied for third, one stroke back.

If anyone has to be considered the favorite to pull out the victory on Sunday, Pak has to get the edge. She is trying to become the seventh woman in LPGA history to complete a career Grand Slam.

She won the LPGA Championship three times, the last of which came last year, and the U.S Open and the British Open once each.

Still, the tournament is up for grabs as anyone who saw Ochoa's performance on the 17th hole must know. One bad hole at the rough Mission Hills Country Club course can destroy anybody's chances of winning in the final round on Sunday.
