East Hartford, CT (AHN) - Ahead of a three-match, send-off tour, the U.S. Women's National Team has taken a break before finalizing their preparations for the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup in China.
The team will regroup at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California on July 20, for three days of intensive training, before traveling to San Jose on July 23 for a match against Japan on July 28. The USA will then take on New Zealand in Chicago on August 12 before finishing up their preparation schedule against Finland in Los Angeles on August 25.
The USA, who won the 1991 and 1999 editions of the women's competition, is one of 16 nations competing in this year's tournament.
The FIFA Women's World Cup takes place in China from September 10-30 and the USA have been drawn in Group B where they will face North Korea, Sweden and Nigeria -- by coincidence the same three first-round opponents they faced at the 2003 World Cup.
Along with host country China, defending Women's World Cup champions Germany and Norway, the USA is one of four seeded teams in the tournament.
