Frisco, Texas (AHN) - The United States women's national soccer team will be battling Canada on Saturday at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. However, the team also hopes to contribute to a greater cause at the same time.
In support of breast cancer research for a cure, the women's national team will wear pink jerseys for the first time ever. The mother's day weekend game will be used as a platform to raise awareness about the rampant disease that affects one in eight women and 43,000 lives a year while trying to raise money for a cure.
In addition to wearing the special jerseys, U.S. Soccer will also be making donations to several institutions that are committed to working towards a cure for breast cancer. U.S. Soccer will make donations to both Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization and the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
After the match against the Canadians, each player will sign her jersey and they will be auctioned off to raise more money for cancer research.
Saturday's match will mark the first time the women's national soccer team has played in Texas since 2004.
Following their friendly international with Canada, the Americans will embark on a six-match send-off tour in preparation for the 2007 World Cup.
