Oklahoma City, OK (AHN) - Candice Baker's sensational week on the mound earned the Cal State Fullerton hurler top honors Tuesday as she was named the USA Softball National Player of the Week.
Baker was untouchable in a 1-0 no-hit win against No. 8 Stanford, and threw 5 2/3 innings of no-hit softball against Orgeon State in another 1-0 Fullerton triumph. "This honor is a reflection of how our hard work has paid off. I would like to thank USA Softball for recognizing my efforts and honoring me with this special award."
Baker is 8-3 this season with a sparkling ERA of 1.10. She has seventh shutouts this season, which already gives year one more than what she had last year. She has also gained national recognition by striking out an impressive 105 hitters in only 83 innings of work.
"Being named National Player of the week is a fantastic honor for Candice Baker and our program. This honor is a result of hard work put in," said Fullerton head coach Michelle Gromacki.
