Rolex Podium Finisher Milka Duno Entered In Indy 500

Indianapolis, IN (AHN) - Make way Danica Patrick and Sarah Fisher, it's time to make room for fellow female driver Milka Duno.

SAMAX Motorsport filed an entry in the May 27th Indianapolis 500 for Duno as well as an entry for team owner Jon Herb, who will be driving for Racing Professionals.Duno, who had a podium finish in the Rolex 24 At Daytona earlier this year, will drive the No. 23 CITGO Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone, with Simon Morley as the chief mechanic and John Cummiskey as the team manager.

The Caracas, Venezuela native will attempt to make her first career Indianapolis 500 start after a long and successful career in sports car racing.Duno, a rookie, will try to become just the fifth woman to drive in the Indy 500 and join an elite club that includes Janet Guthrie, Lyn St. James, Fisher and Patrick.

Fisher has already filed an entry to drive for Dreyer and Reinbold in this year's race and Andretti Green Racing is expected to file an entry for Patrick. If all three females make the field it would be the first time that the race saw three females in the starting grid.

St. James and Fisher drove in the 2000 race and Patrick nearly won the event two years ago.

Herb, will drive the No. 19 Dallara/Honda/Firestone for Racing Professionals, which has competed in the IndyCar and Indy Pro Series, with Joe Barlam as his team manager.The Chicago native has won in the Indy Pro Series and will attempt to make his second career Indianapolis 500 start. He started 18th and finished 27th in 2001 while driving for Tri-Star Motorsports.The entry lists for this year's Indy 500 includes Buddy Rice, Fisher, Marty Roth, Tomas Scheckter, Ed Carpenter, Anthony Foyt IV, Scott Sharp and Jeff Simmons.
