Colorado Springs, CO (AHN) - Accidents happen, even on the grandest of stages.

Jessica Dube was slashed in the face by her partner, Bryce Davison, on Thursday night as the pair was performing in the Four Continents competition.

Dube and Davison, who won the Canadian Nationals just two weeks ago, were performing a side-by-side camel maneuver when Davison's skate caught Dube in the face.

Dube immediately fell to the ice with blood spattering from her nose and left cheek before emergency medical personnel arrived and removed her from the ice on a stretcher.

She was taken to an area hospital, where she underwent surgery to repair the damage to her cheek and nose.

"She has a significant laceration to the left cheek," said Jane Moran, the International Skating Union's medical advisor to AP. Moran would not discuss any specific details about the severity of the cut.

"She's in good spirits and sent her well wishes to all the skaters," Dube's coach, Annie Barabe told AP. "She's being attended to at the hospital right now and is receiving excellent medical attention."
