West Palm Beach, FL (AHN) - Marion Jones has given up her five medals that she won at the Sydney Olympics, just days after admitting that she used performance-enhancing drugs prior to, during, and after the Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee, (IOC), said it would expeditiously to take Jones' medals.
Jones acknowledged on Friday that she'd taken "the clear," an illegal steroid in the middle of the BALCO probe, from September 2000 to July 2001.
Henry DePippo, her lawyer, said Monday that Jones had relinquished her medals, but declined to say where they are now.
According to Reuters, Jones has returned the medals, citing a source close to the disgraced sprinter.
"She apologizes to her competitors and hopes the record books will be amended to accurately reflect their achievements," said the source, who did not wish to be identified.
Jones won three gold medals and two bronzes at the Sydney Olympics.
