New York, NY (AHN) - The New York Liberty (10-8) beat the Sacramento Monarchs (12-7), 71-61 Sunday night as Erin Thorn and Cathrine Kraayeveld each scored 13 points on a night the Liberty got a balanced contribution from nearly every player on the roster.

Loree Moore added 12 points and Shameka Christon chipped in 10 for New York.

"It's always a confidence boost when you beat the top teams from the East and West, back to back," Thorn said. "We're just trying to get better. We've steadily improved and we're getting used to playing with each other. Things are on the up and we're going to try to continue that."

Sacramento, which shot 32 percent for the game, was led by Rebekkah Brunson who scored 18 points.

Nicole Powell chipped 11 for Sacramento, which has lost three of their last five games.

After Sacramento cut the lead to nine points, Kraayeveld's hit a driving lay-up to put New York up 11, a lead they wouldn't relinquish for the remainder of the game.

"The first half was probably some of the best basketball we've played all season," New York coach Pat Coyle said.

Playing in front of their home fans for the first time in nearly two weeks, the Liberty ended the first quarter with a 16-0 run to take a 20-point lead at 32-12 lead.
