Indianapolis, IN (AHN) - Indiana Fever all-star forward Tamika Catchings unfurled a spectacular performance on the Chicago Sky Sunday night that left the visiting team scratching their heads as to how to stop arguably, the greatest female player on the planet right now.
Catchings had a near quadruple-double as she led the Fever (13-4) to a convincing 86-70 win over the Sky (8-10).
Catchings scored 16 points, dished out a career-high 11 assists and grabbed seven rebounds and made seven steals to move into third place on the league's all-time steals list.
The Elias Sports Bureau said Catchings was the first player in league history to have at least seven points, rebounds, assists and steals in the same game.
"She's the best player in the league,'' Chicago coach Bo Overton said. "She could probably play any position, even point guard if they asked her."
"I guess it would be one of my more memorable games,'' Catchings said humbly. "The thing that really matters is that we won, and it was a team effort.''
No WNBA player has had a quadruple-double, and just four have had triple-doubles.
Catchings likely would have achieved the feat had she played more than the miniscule 26 minutes.
Catchings said the feat is a nice achievement, but not one that should come at the expense of possibly injuring herself - particularly in a blowout game.
"I think you're conscious of it, especially when people are like 'you only need this, you only need that,''' she said. "Yeah, I would have loved to do it, but I would rather play another game too.''
All-Star shooting guard Anna DeForge and backup guard Sheri Sam each added scored 14 points and Tammy Sutton-Brown, 13 for the Fever.
Chicago was led by bits own reserve guard, Cathy Joens, who scored 16 points all after being released by the team in May and re-signing on July 5.
"Indiana had more energy tonight and was more aggressive,'' Chicago guard Stacey Dales said. "We didn't come out and match that. They're a playoff team and can win the championship this year."
The Sky's best player, forward Candice Dupree, scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Indiana held its opponent under 40 percent shooting for the 12th consecutive game, a league record, while making 49 percent of its own shots from the field.
