Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - Sheri Sam buried a 3-pointer in the final minute and the Indiana Fever earned a season sweep of the Los Angeles Sparks with a 57-56 victory Thursday night.
Sam's three-pointer with 39 seconds remaining proved to be the difference as the Fever had the Sparks their fourth consecutive loss. The Sparks have not lost four in a row since July 30 to Aug. 6, 2003.
Sam opened the fourth with a basket and closed it with the go-ahead 3-pointer.
Indiana was led by Tamika Catchings' 17 points and 11 rebounds. Tammy Sutton-Brown had 14 points.
Sidney Spencer had 18 points and Sherill Baker 15 for the Sparks, who have lost eight of their last 10.
Both teams shot less than 35 percent in the game and went scoreless for 2 1/2 minutes early in the fourth quarter. The teams combined for just 20 points in the period.
The Sparks got a 3-pointer by Kiesha Brown and a lay-up by Spencer for a 56-52 lead with 2:42 remaining. Catchings scored on a driving lay-up to get Indiana to 56-54.
Christi Thomas missed a jumper with 55 seconds remaining before Sam's 3-pointer. The Sparks missed two shots in the final 39 seconds.
The Sparks played without forward Taj McWilliams-Franklin (sore right hamstring), and guard Temeka Johnson, who also missed Tuesday's game in Seattle tending to a family matter.
