Rebekkah Brunson scored 17 points and the Sacramento Monarchs claimed a 10-point victory. Kristin Haynie dropped in 10 points in reserve duty for the Monarchs (14-9), who are 1/2 games of the first-place Silver Stars.
The Monarchs took 23 foul shots while the Fever (16-8) got to the charity stripe just nine times.
"I thought there were some calls that could have been made," Indiana coach Brian Winters said. "We got to the basket but didn't get the calls."
Tan White led Indiana with 14 points.
The teams combined to shoot just 28 percent in the first quarter and 33 percent for the game.
The Monarchs have won back-to-back games following a three-game losing streak.
Connecticut 79, New York 75
The Sun's (13-12) Evanthia Maltsi scored eight of her 12 points in the final two minutes Janel McCarville had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Liberty (10-13), who have lost five straight.
Asjha Jones' bucket with 8.9 seconds to go gave the Liberty the lead for good.
"We did a good job of keeping our poise in the fourth quarter when we were struggling," Sun coach Mike Thibault said. "Between our mess-ups and a couple of calls and everything else, that can get you frustrated, but we played through it."
Chicago 83, Detroit 73
Candice Dupree had 24 points and 12 rebounds and Stacy Dales scored 16 for Chicago (13-15).
Ivory Latta and Katie Feenstra scored 13 points apiece for Detroit (18-6).
Detroit, the defending WNBA champion, learned before the game that All-Star Cheryl Ford will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
