Indianapolis, IN (AHN) - The Detroit Shock beat the Indiana Fever 89-80 Friday night as three of the team's best players combined to hole off the Fever and their own superstar, Tamika Catchings.
Detroit got a season-high 28 points from Katie Smith, 19 from Deanna Nolan and a near double-double from Cheryl Ford who scored nine points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Detroit, (16-5), won its fifth consecutive game.
The Fever, (16-5), who has their franchise-best six-game winning streak snapped, were led by Tammy Sutton-Brown who scored 16 points and Tan White who added 13.
Catchings scored 12 points before injuring her foot when she landed on another player's foot following a rebound attempt.
The Shock had to hold on late after Indiana cut Detroit's lead to 71-68.
Smith nailed four free throws in the final 22 seconds to seal the victory for the Shock.
