Uncasville, CT (AHN) - The Connecticut Sun quieted the Seattle Storm Friday night, handing their visiting counterparts a resounding 76-58 loss as stars, Lindsay Whalen and Katie Douglas scored 19 points and 18 points respectively as the red-hot Sun, (11-11), stretched their winning streak to five games.
The Storm got a boost in the form of the return of starting point guard, all-star, Sue Bird. Bird's rustiness was evident - and expected after knee surgery earlier this month. Bird, a former star for the University of Connecticut, shot a dismal 3-for-14 from the field for seven points.
In addition to Whalen and Douglas, the Sun also got a strong performance from Asjha Jones who added a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Seattle all-star, Lauren Jackson, the league's leading scorer, (23.0 ppg), scored 19 points to lead the Storm, (11-11), but only four in the decisive second half when the Sun put the game away.
The fastbreaking Sun left tread marks on the Storm to start the second half when they ran off nine consecutive points to go up 46-41, and take five-point lead they would not relinquish.
The Storm led at the half 41-37 as Jackson scored 15 of her 19 and the Sun missed 10 of their first 13 shots in the second period.
