Chicago, IL (AHN) - Detroit has a sixth sense against the Chicago Storm. The Shock got 18 points from Deanna Nolan and 16 from reserve Plenette Pierson to earn its sixth consecutive victory over Chicago, 78-65, Thursday night. Detroit's streak over the Shock dates to 2005.
Guard Katie Smith and forward Cheryl Ford and Swin Cash all scored 11 points apiece for Detroit (14-5), which snapped a two-game road losing streak.
Chicago (8-12), which was led by Jia Perkins'18 points, lost its third straight.
Detroit overcame poor shooting in the first quarter to open a 62-50 lead by the close of the third. Chicago got no closer than 11 points during the final 10 minutes.
The defending WNBA champs shot just 30 percent from the field (6-of-20) in the first quarter, and Chicago built a 20-15 lead. But Detroit shot a sizzling 78 percent (11-of-14) in the second quarter as Nolan scored nine points to take a 40-37 halftime lead.
