WNBA: Brunson, Lawson Help Monarchs Weather Storm

Sacramento, CA (AHN) - The Sacramento Monarchs are doing just fine despite being without one of their top scorers.

Kara Lawson scored 16 points, Yolanda Griffith added 14 and Rebekkah Brunson contributed 13 to pace the Monarchs to an 82-71 triumph over the Seattle Storm on Thursday.

The Monarchs will likely be without star forward DeMya Walker for the remainder of the season.

Brunson, who also pulled in 10 rebounds, is taking advantage of her chance to play in Walker's absence.

"We're all doing it collectively," said Monarchs coach Jenny Boucek. "Yes, Rebekkah is playing very well, but our team is built on different people doing well at different times. I don't see this team getting selfish, because that's not what we do."

The Monarchs (5-3) enjoyed an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter until the Storm stormed back, cutting the deficit to 71-69 with two minutes to go. Lawson, though, nailed two free throws to help put the game away.

Leading the way for the Storm was Sue Bird, who scored 21 points.
