Indianapolis, IN (AHN) - Tan White's 16 second-quarter points helped Indiana over Washington 70-66 in one of the sloppiest games in the short history of the league.
The teams' 52 combined turnovers was a WNBA record for a non-overtime game. The Fever set their own record for futility, going the first 13:32 minutes of the contest without a field goal.
White's 20 points, including her strong second quarter, helped Indiana improve to 4-0.
Washington playing its second game under interim coach Tree Rollins, led by as many as seven during the first half, but Indiana stayed close at the free throw line.
The Mystics fell to 0-6 on the season, despite Tamara James' career-high 17 points, and Alana Beard, who chipped in with 13.
Indiana overcame its franchise-high 29 turnovers also thanks in part to Tamika Catchings (15 points).
The Fever hit all 12 of their foul shots in the first quarter to help overcome their shooting woes. Two more free throws by White at the start of the second quarter put Indiana in front briefly, though Washington came back to forge a 21-14 advantage.
"We played hard,'' Rollins, who took over for Richie Adubato last week, told AP. "We're working new people in, and we're young. We need to work on rebounding the ball better.''
Washington was out-rebounded 31-20.
