WNBA: Lawson, Powell Lead Sacramento Past Chicago, Monarchs Win Third Straight

Chicago, IL (AHN) - Kara Lawson paced the Sacramento Monarchs with 19 points in a 54-52 triumph over the Chicago Sky on Tuesday.

Nicole Powell, who finished with 16 points, made the winning bucket with 4.7 seconds left in regulation.

Powell and the Monarchs (8-3) have won three straight games and six of their last seven.

Candice Dupree led all scorers with 21 points and pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds for the Sky (6-6). Armintie Price contributed 10 points.

Powell drove past Price and to the basket from the top of the key with less than five seconds to go. Chicago turned over the ball on the inbound and Sacramento held on as time expired.

The Sky went on a 10-2 spurt in the third quarter to take a 39-37 lead. The Monarchs scored the next five points and took a 42-39 advantage with 1:06 remaining in the period.

Neither team scored more than 17 points in a single quarter.
