Baton Rouge, LA (AHN) - There is finally some closure for the LSU women's basketball program in regards to beleaguered former head coach Pokey Chatman, who resigned in March after allegations surfaced about an improper sexual relationship with a former player.
The University and Chatman reached an agreement on a buyout on the remaining terms of her contract, including an $85,000 settlement for postseason bonus money the school earned in its trip to the Final Four.
She had previously been given $75,000 as the buyout on the contract she signed, bringing her total compensation to $160,000.
LSU System spokesman Charles Zewe thought it should give Chatman what was deemed a "cumulative" incentive clause because other coaches at the school have similar clauses in their deals.
"It got to be a question of equity," Zewe told AP. "The only fair thing to do was to read her contract in that manner to."
Chatman's attorney, Mary Olive Pierson, said her client was pleased with the outcome.
"Coach Chatman is very happy that it has been resolved," Pierson told AP. "It was an amicable resolution, but it was not too friendly getting here."
