Washington, D.C. (AHN) - The Sacramento Monarchs, the defending Western Conference champions, won their second straight after dropping their opener against Detroit, with a 70-52 dominating win over the Washington Mystics on Tuesday night.

The Monarchs destroyed the Mystics on the glass, holding a 25-5 advantage on the offensive side and a 50-22 edge overall. Sacramento's efforts on the glass were key because they didn't shoot the ball well at all, hitting just 36 percent from the floor. The Monarchs were particularly feeble from beyond the arc where they hit just 2-of-14.

In addition to their rebounding dominance, Sacramento also made it difficult for the Mystics on the defensive end. The Monarchs held Washington to 32 percent shooting and outscored them 20-4 in the fourth quarter.

Washington actually held a 10-point advantage after one quarter and led by as many as 14 in the second quarter.

The game was tied at 48 in the third quarter, but an 18-0 run in the second half as the Mystics didn't score for a seven minute period between the third and fourth quarters.

The Monarchs' Yolanda Griffith and DeMya Walker each scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Ticha Penicheiro and Rebekkah Brunson each added 10 points.

Alana Beard led all scorers with 17 points for the Mystics.
