New York, N.Y. (AHN) - The New York Liberty have a new look this season - and the Chicago Sky are beginning their second season in the WNBA with a similar beginning to last season - a loss.

After getting off to a sluggish start, the Liberty ran away from the Sky on Sunday en route to an 83-71 victory behind Erin Thorn's career-high 28 points in the season opener for both teams.

Shameka Christon added 14 points and Loree Moore, 12 for the Liberty who trailed by 12 in the opening quarter.

"First game jitters," Liberty coach Pat Coyle said. "It took a long time to settle into the game. I think once we did, we started executing and finally started getting some stops."

Thorn put on a shooting clinic, making a career-best seven 3-pointers to help New York tie a franchise-record with 13.

"It was nice," said Thorn. "It is more important to win games. If I am not hitting those shots, I want someone else out there hitting those shots."

New York shot a scorching 13-for-20 from long range while sinking 18-of-20 from the free throw line.

Monique Currie scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Chicago, and Candice Dupree chipped in 12 points.

"I thought we came out and attacked and played very hard," Sky coach Bo Overton said. "New York really played well in the second half, and that kind of got us where we got on our heels a little bit. A couple of shots didn't go down. I thought we played very well in the first (half) and not so well in the second."

Chicago led 42-33 at halftime, and Stacey Dales hit another 3-pointer to give the Sky a 12-point lead with 8:07 remaining in the third quarter.

New York used an 11-0 run, including two more treys by Thorn, to increase its lead to 75-63 with 2:56 remaining.

Currie made two free throws and added a basket with 1:37 to go to pull the Sky within eight points but that was as close they would get.
